Significance Of UPS Management Software

UPS management software

UPS is commonly used for networking equipment such as computers or other equipment. This will allow users to save everything to avoid data loss and shut down the computer properly. It is necessary to have UPS in the company. Based on our experience, it is really necessary for companies to have UPS to prevent downtime. It is also used to prevent damage to instruments and equipment, especially with power fluctuations. You can never be sure about those small fluctuations because sometimes, it can still affect your equipment without proper UPS management software.

What is UPS?

An uninterruptible power supply (UPS) is employed to protect critical loads from utility-supplied power problems, including spikes, brownouts, fluctuations and power outages, all employing a dedicated battery.

Function of UPS

Even though the primary role of any UPS is to provide short-term power when the input power source fails, most UPS units are capable of fixing other common utility power problems as well.

When is UPS comes handy?

  1. Total loss of input voltage

A power outage, also known as a power outage, power failure, power loss or blackout, is generally considered a short-term or long-term loss of electrical power in an area. There are many reasons for power failures in power networks, including:

  • Malfunctions in power stations.
  • Damage to power lines.
  • Substations, or other parts of the distribution system.
  • A short circuit.
  • Overloading the electrical mains.
  • Power Surge or Spike

In electrical engineering, spikes are defined as a surge in voltage or short duration electrical transistors. They can transfer voltage spikes, current spikes, or energy spikes in electrical circuits. Rapid, short-term electrical transitions, or over-voltages, in the electrical potential of a circuit are typically caused by electric shocks, tripping circuit breakers, and power transitions in other large equipment on the same power line.

  • Power Greens

A power sag is defined as a momentary or continuous decrease in the input voltage. A brownout or dysfunction is a drop in voltage in an electrical power supply.

  • Single Point of Failure

In large business enterprises, where reliability is of great importance, even a large UPS may have a single point of failure that can disrupt many other systems. To provide greater reliability, multiple smaller UPS modules and batteries can be integrated together to provide redundant power protection that is comparable to a larger UPS.

Many computer servers provide the option of redundant power supplies, so that in the event of a power supply failure, one or more other power supplies are able to power the load. This is an important point. Each individual power supply should be able to power the entire server on its own. Redundancy is further increased by plugging each power supply into a separate circuit and a separate circuit breaker. Redundancy protection can be further enhanced by connecting each power supply to its individual UPS. It provides dual protection from both power supply failure and UPS failure to ensure continuous operation.

Choose The Best UPS For Your Desktop Computer

UPS delivery Malaysia

What is a UPS?

An uninterruptible power supply, also called a UPS system or UPS battery backup, saves connected equipment from power dropping problems and provides battery backup power during electrical outages and abnormal voltage fluctuations. All UPS systems perform two critical functions: provide battery backup power and protect equipment from power surges and line noise interference.

Types of UPS

There are three main types of UPSs: Offline, Online, and Line Interactive.

Here is a breakdown of the individual types of UPS delivery Malaysia mentioned as follows

  • Offline UPS

The Standby UPS, “Offline UPS” or a “Standby Power Supply” is the most simplistic and cheaper version of the UPS. Essentially, this type of UPS will work on power directly from the wall socket to the power supply of the computer until a power outage. Once the power shuts down, the UPS will switch to using its internal battery to power the attached device. The biggest problem with this version is that the UPS waits until it detects that no power is coming from the wall before it switches to battery power. It is possible in that short amount of time, called the “switch time” or “transfer time”, that the computer that is connected to it might not be able to run without obstruction. This could cause the loss of vital unsaved data.

  • Online UPS

Online UPSs are sometimes called “True UPS”. These are similar to Standby UPSs with some significant differences as well. In an Online UPS, the power comes from the battery of the UPS itself and the power from the wall is constantly recharging the battery. It is similar to using a laptop while it is plugged in. If the power goes out, it will keep running until the battery dies. There is no “transfer time” that leads to loss of power and there is another level of protection from any surges or drops in voltage coming off the wall power. So there is no tension of potential damage to the computer.

  • Line Interactive

Line Interactive UPSs are different from the Offline or Online versions we already discussed. In a Line Interactive UPS, the power from the wall streams into the Inverter/Converter in the UPS. The power is then divided into both AC and DC current. The DC charges the battery of the UPS and the AC flows to the power supply of the computer. When power is missed to the wall, the computer gets all of its power from the battery in the UPS. Line Interactive UPSs do still have transfer time when power is lost, but it is a faster response than in Offline Models.

Significant features of an UPS

When you go to purchase a UPS backup system, you may notice some of the items listed as added features. Here is a breakdown of what each of these features is:

Communication Ports

Most UPS systems have built-in USB, serial, and contact closure communication ports. These enable power management, additional surge protection to connected peripherals, and automatic unattended shutdown; systems will power off when not in use for a certain period of time.

User-Replaceable Batteries

Most UPS models stimulate a removable panel for internal battery replacement.  This could be a great feature that offers replaceable battery cartridges. This enables us to replace the entire UPS, and just get a new battery pack.

Energy-Saving Models

Select Eco-Friendly UPS models that decrease energy consumption and associated costs.

Lithium Batteries

Select UPS systems to have lithium iron phosphate (LiFeP04) batteries. Differed from lead-acid batteries, lithium iron phosphate batteries offer longer life, more cycles, and faster charging to 100% capacity.

Muted Alarm

Audible Alarms specify various UPS functions.  Select UPS systems have the audible alarms muted at the factory for use in speechless environments. However, if sound levels are not a factor then the unmuted alarm could be a good thing to be aware of the UPS condition.

Multifunction LCD Control Panel

An LCD screen may enable access to the advanced features of the UPS system without a computer. It can show helpful information like input voltage or battery capacity. The LCD commonly has a backlight, make sure you can dim the backlight to minimize distractions in darkened settings.

Cooling Fan

More power that is flowing through the UPS will create more heat to build up, which could shorten the life of the UPS. It could fail, or even cause harm to the systems. Larger UPS systems generally have built-in cooling fans, These fans help to keep the UPS cool and run optimally.

Remote Power Management

Network management cards turn any network/server UPS delivery in Malaysia equipped with a network card slot into a managed device on the network. Which can remotely monitor the energy usage and reboot unresponsive equipment from any place. The optional network card allows comprehensive management via SNMP, Web, SSH, or telnet which supports one or more optional sensors for remote temperature, humidity, and contact closure monitoring.
